The People Behind the Table

Margaret & Tom Calloway

We moved to Elm Street in 2019 with a long oak table, too many cast-iron pans, and the stubborn belief that the best thing you can do for a neighborhood is feed it.

Saturday nights started as dinners for six friends; they grew into something we didn't expect — a room full of people who didn't know each other in January and can't imagine a Saturday without the table by March.

What guests write home about

We drove forty minutes and would drive twice that. The short ribs alone are worth rearranging your whole Saturday.

I bought my parents a gift supper for their anniversary. My mom cried. We're all going back next month.

We moved here in September knowing nobody. By November we had standing Saturday plans. That's what this table does.
